MAKE : A Seasonal Signpost Calendar

18 September @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm AEST

Seasonal Signpost Calendars map the changes in our environment, helping us to notice the nature and relationships of plant and animal species we live with, and to link our personal lives with the cycles of our environment.

Sofia Sabbagh is a multi-disciplinary artist and community-engaged arts coordinator. Using arts-based research, story-telling, sensory ecology and murals, Sofia celebrates our local ecology and explores her role in the environment.

Sofia will share some techniques to get you started on creating you own seasonal signpost calendar that will reflect the plant and animal species in your local environment.

Her work is informed by her Palestinian and Irish heritage, and the fight for land/earth rights via stories which generate hope, belonging, and resistance to cultural genocide. Sofia has been working as an arts facilitator and eco-literacy educator for people of all ages and sensory profiles for over 5 years. She has a Post-Graduate degree in Arts Therapy (MIECAT) and an undergraduate degree in Indigenous Studies (Melbourne University).

Tickets purchased will include materials for the workshop and a simple vegetarian lunch. Please bring your own lunch if you have specific dietary requirements or have specific food allergies that our lunch will not be able to accommodate.

Important: We would like to ensure everyone feels welcome and comfortable at Strathdon House and Orchard Precinct. Please let us know if you have any allergies or conditions that you would like to share with us.

Strathdon House and Orchard Precinct hosts educational programs around environmental sustainability, health and wellbeing. The precinct provides opportunities for the community to relax, make, learn, play in nature and celebrate the seasons.

Strathdon House and Orchard Precinct is operated by Whitehorse City Council and is suitable for meetings, workshops, classes and private events.
