South Side Festival

6 May @ 10:00 am - 15 May @ 10:30 pm AEST

There are paid and free events across the whole festival.

Immerse yourself in a fabulous thrill of innovative delights in this 9-day festival in Frankston.

May 6 – 15, various venues across Frankston City will be re-imagined and spring to life in new and fantastical ways, some of which are world firsts and have never been seen before. More than 50 amazing performances by some 230 artists will thrill, delight and tantalize audiences in innovative and thought-provoking experiences you won’t want to miss.

The program is a smorgasbord of contemporary art forms including provocative live theatre, dance, music, stunning visual art installations, mind-blowing immersive experiences, exhibitions, workshops, talks, markets and more.

Highlights include the Frankston Generator, a world-first immersive underground audio and visual experience from world-renowned experiential activation leaders, Mandylights. Visitors will delve into a 3-level, self-guided exploration of sights and sounds, beneath the Frankston Arts Centre. Immersed in a world of innovative laser lighting, video screens, wind tunnel and audio soundscapes.

Experience live theatre at its most emotional-evoking best, as Reckōning divulges its powerful story of reclamation and rediscovery of indigenous culture through authentic storytelling and moving original songs. This masterful work has travelled the globe and winner of four Melbourne Fringe Awards. A breath-taking cross cultural, multi art-form performance work which fuses Indigenous cultures from Aotearoa, New Zealand and Te Whēnua Moemoeā (Land of the Dreamtime) Australia.

Your eyes and insides will contort on the edge of your seat. Embarking on a seductive dance through the hall of mirrors that is your imagination, Circa’s Peepshow lurches from the thrillingly acrobatic to the comically playful. Expect teetering towers of balanced bodies, extreme bending, beguiling burlesque, and devilishly precarious aerials.

South Side Festival offers a range of both free and ticketed events. You can browse the full program and purchase tickets at the South Side Festival website.
